Asteroid 2007 TU24

On January 30, 2008, the photo above was featured on NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day website.

That is simply the best photo I’ve ever seen come from NASA. ROFL!
To be fair, the image is actually taken from radar, which probably explains the huge pixels. Anyway, it just makes me laugh that NASA would put this photo in succession with the other amazing photographs on the Astronomy Picture of the Day website.

Here’s some background info on asteroid 2007 TU24: On January 29, 2008, 2007 TU24 (that’s the full name of the asteroid) passed by planet Earth without causing any danger. The oblong and irregular-shaped space rock was about 250 meters across. Had it hit Earth, the asteroid would have caused substantial damage to the surface, resulting in a tsunami, a magnitude seven earthquake, or a city-sized crater.
