Every time I see a different rendition of the NYC Subway map, I can’t help but stop and take a good hard look at how the map is composed. I find it very interesting to see how different interpretations of the map are laid out to give the most information in the best and clearest way as possible.

While the Subway map above from Zero Per Zero isn’t that much different in terms of track layout, they have managed to place the entire city of New York into a big heart, which to me, is quite a feat when the city looks nothing like a heart. If you have a look at their website, you can see details of the map, including building inserts that I think are a great addition to the Subway map. [via]

I’m not personally in love with the brown color, but as something to supplement the current official Subway map, I can look past it and appreciate it for what it is. But honestly, my favorite map is still the official MTA Subway map.
