I thought this was an interesting story on sports equipment design: Trevor Leahy, a student and hockey goalie in New Hampshire invented a new goalie pad, a trapper, and a blocker that is covered with what looks like the goalie net in order to confuse players from the opposing team into shooting at him rather than the net. In the fast-paced game of hockey, the pads have worked somewhat well in early tests and Trevor thinks they might be successful enough to catch on.

I think it’s a pretty novel idea and a part of me is wondering why it’s taken this long for somebody to realize that camouflage and confusion is a good tactic in sports.
