Reader Matt sends over news that the Detroit City Council has recently voted to demolish the abandoned Michigan Central Station and to go after billionaire Manny Maroun to recoup the funds. As I’ve mentioned earlier, the Michigan Central Station was built by the same people who completed Grand Central Station in New York City. Michigan Central Station has been abandoned for about 20 years ever since Amtrak stop using it as a station for its trains.

For now, there is no immediate timetable for the demolition and the city is awaiting further discussion when city council returns from Spring recess on April 28th. From the news report however, it does sound like the earliest that the building can be demolished would be in 120 days and it must be completed within 18 months.

If there was ever a time for me to go to Detroit, it sounds like I should do it within the next few months.
