Twelve South sent me a BookArc over the weekend and I’m just getting around to setting it up now. It’s a wonderful piece of desktop hardware for those of us who own those Apple rectangles known as MacBooks or MacBook Pros.

The BookArc comes in a brown-colored box which holds 2 soft silicone inserts in addition to the one that comes attached to the unit upon unboxing. The soft silicone inserts are labeled with numbers which correspond to a certain fit for your particular Apple laptop. The soft silicone inserts allow the BookArc to fit the following models of Apple computer:

  • 13″ MacBook
  • 13″ MacBook Pro
  • 13″ MacBook White (as well as previous older MacBook models)
  • MacBook Air
  • 15″ MacBook Pro
  • 17″ MacBook Pro

My 15″ MacBook Pro fit into the stand really well. There was no movement or tilting whatsoever. The BookArc is made from the same grade aluminum that the MacBook is made out of and the weight alone keeps the stand from falling over if I move the table while my computer is in the stand. The design of the BookArc allows for heat dissipation via the MacBook’s rear vents while in use and also gives you access to all of the ports on either side of the laptop.

Overall, I’m more than impressed with this simple Mac accessory. I was thinking that it was made of silver-painted plastic but it’s actually a solid piece of aluminum with a great fit for my notebook. If you’ve got a MacBook and you’ve got an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, this is a perfect way to turn that laptop into a space-saving functional desktop. Pick up a Twelve South BookArc at for $50.
