I thought this was a joke at first but it’s not. The Library of Congress has just announced that it is acquiring the entire Twitter archive since March 2006. All public Tweets will soon be available for searching and indexing at the Library of Congress which I think is a really great idea.

Tweets like Obama’s election-winning Tweet and Jack Dorsey’s first Tweet (as the founder of Twitter) will be there.

Users with a large amount of Tweets haven’t been able to go all the way back to their first Tweet since the service grew big so maybe this might be a way to look back into the past and see what you were Tweeting about in 2006.
