Somebody needs to tell The New York Times about a site called Engrish.com because The NYT just posted a whole gallery filled with examples of what they call “Chinglish”. Apparently, Shanghai is trying desperately to save itself from being the ridicule of internet viewers everywhere as the entire world looks to the city during the World Expo. Hehe.

Also, this sentence from the article was interesting:

He pointed out that this linguistic mentality helped create such expressions as “long time no see,” a word-for-word translation of a Chinese expression that became a mainstay of spoken English.

I never thought about it before, but “long time no see” really is a direct translation of a Chinese saying (in Cantonese: ho loi mo geen).
