Here’s proof that a nearly 5 year old computer can still throw some punches with the right upgrades. Here’s Joyce’s 2007 MacBook. She bought it stock with 1GB of RAM and a 5400RPM hard drive. The computer itself isn’t terrible, but it was in dire need of an upgrade. So I bought her an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 3G SSD and 4GB of RAM and turned her then-sluggish computer into a machine that is now comparable in speeds to a MacBook you could buy brand-new today.

I wasn’t very scientific in making the video above, but it does show very simply how that simple upgrade made 1:55 minutes of boot time go down to just 30 seconds. Pretty nuts.

If you’ve got an older computer that you think is starting to show signs of its age, maybe it’s time to just upgrade to an SSD.
