Yes folks, it’s true! FireWire card readers are back! Earlier this month I wrote about one photographer’s findings of a brand-new type of FireWire 800 CF card reader that emerged into the market after all other FireWire readers basically went kaput. The situation (in brief) was that the company that made the FireWire component in these card readers went out of business and thus the entire FireWire card industry just closed in on itself.
Well, now I am confirming that the German company Delock’s FireWire 800 card reader works just as well and reads just as fast as its earlier cousins (shown above). And at $50 USD, it’s actually a better deal than any FireWire card reader was before.
Do you know if it has any issues using a firewire 800 to 600 cable? My hackintosh only has a firewire 600 port (the one that looks like a tall house fell over).
You mean FireWire 400 right? It should work just fine. I can test for you and let you know for sure.
Were you able to test out using the reader with a fw400 adapter?
Hey I was just wondering if anyone had tried using the card reader with a Firewire 400 adapter cable. I have an older black macbook and don’t have a Firewire 800 port.
Thanks,
Chris
