WEST COAST RECAP from Herman Yung on Vimeo.

Nothing like heartbreak staring you in the face everyday as you blog. This post has been in drafts mode for quite some time now and every time I’m at my computer it looks back at me as if to say “publish or trash it — don’t save me”. A few weeks back when all of this took place all I could think about was what a waste of time it was to see things fall apart so quickly. Suddenly all the things you looked forward to were gone; all the gifts you gifted and intended to give — meaningless; many associated friendships lost. It reminds me a lot about something Malcolm Gladwell talks about in Blink in which a longtime couple experiences transitive memory loss after a divorce/split. Things you knew the other person in a relationship had answers to are suddenly missing. That’s me. I’m going through a bit of transitive memory loss and at the moment and for some reason or another I’m trying to make up for it by filling my head with everything I can remember about the other person. Not that these tragedies are on the same level at all, but in the same weird way that I remember 9/11 by re-watching the planes hit the towers, I am trying to remember somebody through videos I have of them. And then one day — probably today since I’m deciding to finally publish this — you realize you gotta let go because something ain’t coming back.

If you’ve read this blog in the last 10 years or so you’ve heard me go through this same situation at least twice before (maybe more…secretly — haha). I know in my head that I get through it with time, but this one was different and I feel like it’ll take me a bit longer to forget. Maybe forget is the wrong word…

Anyway, you lose something and you gain a few things in its place. Life is funny like that. So here’s the last one, but if you don’t care to relive it in these videos, you can get a skimped down version here.
