Jonathan McIntosh is the creator of a fair-use remix video posted to YouTube that mashes up scenes from Buffy The Vampire Slayer with Twilight (video posted below). Posted in 2009, the video has garnered much press, has been exhibited at screenings, and has even been used as an example of exemptions to the DMCA.

Even still, Lionsgate, which owns the rights to Buffy, filed a takedown notice to YouTube regarding the video and even with proof that it was fair-use, YouTube allowed Lionsgate to keep the video offline for quite some time…until YouTube’s broken copyright policy started getting the heat from online sources linking to McIntosh’s story.

As of this morning, the video is back online but not after a big fight for no apparent reason it seems. A perfect example of how big companies are abusing YouTube’s copyright system.
