I truly admire people like Michael Dickinson who is shown here in this video talking about the vast amounts of research he has done in studying a subject that most of us would never even think more than a few seconds about. FLIES. Dickinson’s research on flies has led him to the conclusion that flies are a lot smarter than we perceive them to be. They are incredibly adept at orientating themselves in their environments even when their environment is rapidly changing.

In this video from a TED Talk at CalTech¬†we see some of Dickinson’s research in glorious slow-motion video which he then relates to humans and other species of animals on the planet. Comparing us to the fly seems odd but it just might not be such a far-fetched comparison after all. Utterly fascinating research. Peep the video after the jump.
