This New York Times piece takes another look at how defectors escape North Korea through a series of deals done by brokers. In a way, it’s a lot like human trafficking except this sort of trafficking involves people getting to freedom. There is still money involved, money fought over, and stories of people not making it through safely. All of this however is still worth the risk for freedom outside of NK.

If you recall, VICE also did a similar report a few months ago about how defectors successfully escape North Korea through China and into places like Thailand and Laos.
