The Museum of the City of New York just opened this fantastic exhibit of Martin Wong’s collection of early NYC graffiti photos and artifacts. The exhibit is a rare chance to see a portion of the entire collection that Martin Wong donated to the MCNY in 1994 in person (the rest of what’s not on display can be see here). It really is pretty solid collection of stuff saved from destruction in an arena of art that is so used to being washed, painted, and buffed.

This exhibit runs at the MCNY until August 24th so you’ve got some time. But don’t forget about it just because it’s a long ways from closing.

Oh, and if you can’t make it to New York, you can always view the collection in book form by purchasing City as Canvas: New York City Graffiti From the Martin Wong Collection.
