I have a long history with Timbuk2 products. My very first bag that I bought for myself back in my high school days was a Timbuk2 — a wonderful waxed canvas bag that unfortunately met its fate inside a van that caught on fire and exploded (long story). I loved that messenger bag so much that I immediately bought another one and used that until I broke a hole through it. And when it broke, I sent it in to Timbuk2 and they made it new again. It was this sort of quality and care that really made me fall in love with this company.

Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of owning a good number of their bags from messenger-styled over-the-shoulder slings to backpacks and even some of their accessories. They’ll always be the original messenger bag company to me because they were my first and now that they’re celebrating 25 years of bag-making, they’re re-introducing their classic messenger with a whole mess of new features and improvements.

The bag that got me hooked in the first place is now available in CORDURA once again, a nod to the company’s original messenger bag option from 1989. CORDURA 940D Endurance Nylon is lighter, stronger, and breaks in a whole lot nicer than Ballistic Nylon. On top of that, the bag features a brand-new cam buckle that does away with the giant loop hanging under your arm. Inside, the bag has optional water bottle mesh pocket and an overall more organized layout for smaller items. After all, the things we carry now are quite different than the things people carried when the classic messenger was introduced in 1989.

And so here it is: The new Timbuk2 Classic Messenger Bag, starting at $79. Go customize one!
