I remember this event very well. August 14, 2003. This Retro Report from The New York Times gives a great overview of the events of those few days.

Before the internet, April Fools’ Day was a bearable “holiday”. But with increasing annoyance every year, the internet becomes absolutely unusable on April 1st, so today, I am not going to post anything.

I never knew Conan did a partial show during the 2003 blackout (mainly because I had no power and could not watch TV), but he did it anyway without an audience and without most of the Northeast watching the show on TV. Amazing dedication to his comedic craft and former show.

It never occurred to me before that YouTube would have great footage of this memorable event in NYC history. Glad I did this search.
