AeroVelo just won the $250,000 prize from the Igor I. Sikorsky Human Powered Helicopter Competition to make a human-powered helicopter. Their design utilized a bicycle in the center with 4 massive rotating propellers. It stayed afloat for over 1 minute at a height of about 3 meters.

This is the Turanor Planetsolar, a 5500-square-foot boat with photovoltaic cells powering 8-tons of lithium-ion batteries.
