I just learned from Little Big Details┬áthat you can zoom in on Google Maps for iOS (maybe for Android too) using one finger. Just double tap like you normally would but don’t lift your finger on the second tap. Then drag your finger up or down to your desired zoom level. Life-changing!

Just discovered this site called HUGEpic that sort of combines the zoomability of Google Maps (or any mapping program for that matter) with giant images to give you an experience similar to that of the Gigapixl project. Here’s a really weird example.

If you miss the feel of a camcorder while recording video, you now can relive that experience with your DSLR with the new HandiZoom. It’s a camera rig that lets you more comfortably hold your camera up to your eye with motorized zoom control. Not a bad idea, but not the coolest looking either.

It seems as if the as-yet-to-be-released Fujifilm XF1 has a zoom ring that involves twisting, turning, pulling, and sliding to operate different functions of the camera. I hope this won’t be a cause for mechanical failure. I personally would just prefer a button. [via]
